Screening at an earlier age

Should consider start colon cancer screening at an earlier age and screening repeated at short time intervals. Screening means examining individual without symptoms in order to detect disease or find individual at increased risk of disease.

Stages of colon cancer

For colon cancer, the staging is based on how far such cancer has grown. If it has reached nearby structures, and whether it has spread to the lymph nodes or distant organs. Staging of colon cancer is described on a scale from 0 to IV, with 0 meaning a cancer that has not begun to invade the wall of intestine and IV describing cancer that has spread beyond the original site to other parts of the body.

The stage of a cancer is one of the most important factors in working out the prognosis and treatment options.
