What is Septin 9

Septin 9 is a gene located in chromosome 17 and found in any human being, but through extensive research it has been found that CRC tumours (colon cancer) develop along with Septin 9 methylation.

Methylated Septin 9 (mS9) is associated with cancerous cells of CRC present within the body. There is an increased level of methylated Septin 9 DNA and cells circulating in the blood of cancer patients compared to healthy controls and this can be used as a useful biomarker for CRC (colon cancer) detection.

mS9 DNA Colorectal Cancer Screening Test is intended for detecting the presence of methylated Septin 9 (mS9) DNA in the cancer patient blood. The mS9 DNA test was designed to specifically detect the mS9 DNA in blood plasma and serves as an early warning indicator that further confirmation with colonoscopy will be necessary. Screening means examining individual without symptoms in order to detect disease or find individual at increased risk of disease.

The recommended flow for colorectal cancer prevention

If the results are negative, it is positive for your health but screening at regular intervals is also recommended. With the limitations of Faecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT), false-positive results are common, but in contrast the clinical specificity of the mS9 DNA test reaches as high as 99%.
